How to use
- Enter non-overlapping rectangular zones, or switch to a known total floor area.
- Enter the actual area covered by one pack from the product label and choose your allowance.
- Choose pricing per area or per pack. An optional installation rate applies to the net floor area.
- Review full packs, purchased area, material cost and installation cost.
Calculation method
Floor area is the sum of zone length × width, or the known area. Target area = floor area × (1 + allowance / 100). Packs = round up(target area / pack coverage). Purchased area = packs × coverage. Area-priced material uses the purchased area; pack pricing uses pack count. Installation uses net floor area. Material and installation costs are rounded to cents separately, then added.
Worked example
A 4 × 3 m floor has 12 m². With 10% allowance and packs covering 2.2 m², the 13.2 m² target needs exactly 6 packs. At 25 USD/m² the purchased material costs 330 USD. Installation at 10 USD/m² adds 120 USD, for 450 USD total.
Assumptions and limits
This is suitable for products sold by stated pack coverage, such as laminate or vinyl planks. It does not lay out planks, optimize cuts or choose an allowance for a pattern. A floor with different products needs separate estimates. Underlay, trims, preparation, tax and delivery are excluded.
Units, prices and saved estimates
Physical values are stored internally in metres, square metres, cubic metres or kilograms as appropriate. Changing measurement units converts their display; choosing a currency changes its label without applying an exchange rate. Purchase quantities use unrounded calculations. Money is shown to two decimal places.
