Measure the area that receives flooring
Split an L-shaped room into non-overlapping rectangles. Include recesses that will be covered and exclude fixed areas only when the installation plan calls for that. The area calculator can help with more varied shapes.
Use pack coverage from the label
Plank dimensions and pack contents are useful checks, but the purchase calculation needs the product’s stated area per pack. In the flooring calculator, this value is converted when you change measurement systems; switching units does not select a different product.
Distinguish three areas
Net floor area is the measured installation space. Target area includes your chosen allowance. Purchased area is what complete packs provide. In the worked example, 12 m² becomes 13.2 m² and fits six 2.2 m² packs exactly. A slightly larger target would need a seventh pack.
Check the fitting plan
Diagonal layouts, pattern repeats and minimum end-piece lengths can change cutting losses. No single starting allowance guarantees sufficient material. Confirm the layout and product instructions before ordering.
Installation is priced on net area in this tool. Compare that basis with the installer’s quotation, and add preparation, underlay, trims and other quoted charges separately.
