Editorial & calculation methodology

Clear formulas and honest limits

Every tool has a documented model. Tiles use area and full boxes. Wallpaper uses full-height strips and whole rolls grouped by planned cut length. Paint uses wall area, openings, coats and coverage. The collection also covers geometric area and volume, concrete, gravel, drywall, flooring, grout, adhesive, leveling compound and lumber. Product-dependent rates come from your inputs rather than an assumed universal specification. The method and a numerical example appear on each tool’s page.

Calculations use unrounded numeric values internally. Results are rounded for display. Purchase quantities round up to whole packs, rolls or containers; values extremely close to an exact boundary use a small floating-point tolerance to avoid an extra pack caused only by arithmetic representation.

Inputs and validation

The tools check supported ranges, finite numbers and whole-number counts where required. Deductions larger than the available surface area cause an error. A failed input clears the purchase result rather than keeping an older valid estimate visible.

Metric and US controls convert physical values. The US paint mode uses US gallons, not Imperial gallons. Currency selection labels a price supplied by the user and never applies an exchange rate. Regional number formatting is a separate site setting.

Testing and revisions

Calculation modules are separated from the interface so they can be tested with reference examples, boundary values, invalid data and unit conversions. Changes to a formula should include an explanation and regression tests. A successful formula test does not prove that a product-specific installation assumption is appropriate.

Reports include an algorithm version. Meaningful changes to methods or examples should be recorded in the project change log. Publication and modification dates reflect editorial events, rather than updating automatically on every build.

Editorial approach

Guides explain practical decisions beyond the arithmetic. Product-specific instructions, prices and regulations are not treated as universal. Follow the manufacturer’s current label and instructions for the material you choose.

No professional review, certification or expert authorship is claimed where it has not occurred. These materials provide general planning information. Site measurements, unusual installations and decisions affecting safety need suitable specialist advice.

Corrections

Use the contact page to identify a calculation or content issue. Include a reproducible example where possible. Transparent assumptions and reproducible results are more useful than an unexplained confidence score.
