Volumes & voids

Choose a unit beside each dimension. Changing it converts the same measurement. Added volumes must not overlap; voids must be inside included volumes and counted once. Positions and intersections are not detected.

Result & order volume

Allowance is added after voids. The order is then rounded up to a multiple of the increment. This increment is not a supplier minimum or truck capacity. Net geometric volume stays separate.

Optional cost estimate

Cost uses the rounded order volume. Starting price is an editable example. Set price to 0 to exclude cost. Unit changes convert the rate; currency changes its label only.

How to use

  1. Choose a rectangular solid, cylinder, triangular prism or known-area × depth.
  2. Choose Add or Subtract for every element. Enter quantities and check each field’s own unit selector.
  3. Choose the output volume unit, allowance, optional order increment and price per displayed volume unit.
  4. Review included, excluded, net and purchased volume separately.

Calculation method

Rectangular solid: length × width × height. Cylinder: π × (diameter / 2)² × height. Triangular prism: triangular base × perpendicular height × prism length / 2. Known-area mode: area × depth. Each result is multiplied by quantity. Net volume = added volumes − subtracted volumes and must be positive. Apply allowance, then round up to the order increment if it is greater than zero. Cost uses the purchased volume.

Worked example

A 4 × 3 m rectangle at 20 cm depth is 2.4 m³, or 2400 L. With no allowance at 50 USD/m³ the cost is 120 USD. Adding 10% makes 2.64 m³; a 0.5 m³ order increment produces 3 m³ and 150 USD. A cylinder of diameter 2 m and height 1 m has volume π m³. A triangular prism with base 3 m, perpendicular height 2 m and length 4 m is 12 m³.

Assumptions and limits

This is geometric volume, not a material-specific conversion to weight. The tool cannot detect overlap or decide whether a void should be deducted. It does not model slopes, irregular excavations, settlement or structural design. A positive result can require at least one complete order increment even when that increment is much larger than the net volume.

Units, prices and saved estimates

Physical values are stored internally in metres, square metres, cubic metres or kilograms as appropriate. Changing measurement units converts their display; choosing a currency changes its label without applying an exchange rate. Purchase quantities use unrounded calculations. Money is shown to two decimal places.
