Plan the layers as separate materials

A paving purchase contains more than the visible blocks. In the paver and base calculator, paving, base aggregate and bedding sand have independent quantity inputs. Decide which layers belong in the estimate before entering prices.

Measure the installation area and mark exclusions. The model removes an excluded footprint from every enabled layer. If a slab is not paved but the base remains beneath it, represent that situation with separate estimates rather than one exclusion that removes too much.

Choose unit dimensions or pack coverage

A repeating paving module can include a joint, whereas a manufacturer’s pack coverage may already describe installed coverage. Use one coherent method. Do not add another joint correction to a label figure that already includes it.

For 12 m², a 10% allowance creates a 13.2 m² paving target. Packs covering 2 m² each require seven packs. That purchase rounding is separate from the allowance. A pattern-specific cutting demand still needs a layout review; the tool does not infer it from a pattern name.

Keep compacted depth distinct from loose volume

Area multiplied by depth is a geometric layer volume. The loose material needed to achieve a specified finished layer can differ. Enter an appropriate conversion factor for the chosen material and specification rather than borrowing one from another aggregate.

Mass additionally needs bulk density. Bag count needs bag mass. Leaving unknown product data empty is more informative than producing an exact-looking order from an assumed density.

Compare the complete order

Match every price to its basis: pavers per piece or pack, aggregate per volume or mass, and bags per complete bag. Delivery, tax and labor require separate quotations. The calculator does not design drainage, edge restraints or the load-bearing section.

The gravel calculator provides a separate bulk-versus-bag estimate. Use the area calculator when checking an irregular overall footprint.
