Identify the parameter before correcting it

The extruder calibration calculator supports two different configuration quantities. Marlin E-steps describes steps per unit of feed. Klipper rotation distance describes feed travel per rotation under the configured gearing. The multipliers therefore run in opposite directions.

If 100 mm is commanded but 95 mm is measured, Marlin’s steps value increases while Klipper’s rotation distance decreases. Applying the same ratio to both would produce an incorrect correction.

Keep the measurement tied to actual feed

Enter the current configuration value, the commanded length and the observed filament movement. When using a mark, subtract its final distance from its initial distance. A mark changing from 120 to 25 mm means 95 mm moved; the final 25 mm is not itself the feed length.

This measurement is separate from the dimensions of a printed test object. Printed dimensions can reflect several processes and should not be substituted for actual filament travel in this model.

Use the official procedure for the printer

Review Klipper’s extruder rotation-distance calibration documentation or Marlin’s steps-per-unit documentation for the relevant firmware. Preserve the meaning of existing gear-ratio settings rather than treating the displayed value as a complete replacement configuration.

The calculator does not connect to hardware, issue commands, heat the hotend or save configuration. Carry out tests and changes through the printer’s supported procedure. Investigate inconsistent measurements or slipping before treating the numerical result as a solution.

Check the result before the next tuning step

For 93 steps/mm and a 100-to-95 mm measurement, the proposed value is about 97.8947 steps/mm. For a 34.4 mm/rev rotation distance, it is 32.68 mm/rev. Keeping a record of the original value and measured inputs makes a repeated test easier to interpret.

After the feed relationship is established, evaluate material-specific extrusion behavior separately. The volumetric flow calculator addresses required throughput, not this measurement correction.
