How to use
- Choose Marlin E-steps or Klipper rotation distance, then enter the current value for that firmware.
- Enter commanded feed length and actual measured feed. Alternatively derive actual feed from before-and-after mark distances.
- Check that measurements refer to filament feed, not a printed cube or an XYZ-axis dimension.
- Review the proposed value and repeat the measurement as appropriate using the firmware’s official procedure. The calculator applies no printer commands.
Calculation method
Marlin correction = current steps per unit × commanded feed / actual feed. Klipper correction = current rotation distance × actual feed / commanded feed. Mark measurement derives actual feed as initial mark distance − final mark distance; final distance must be smaller, and zero is allowed. The reciprocal multipliers reflect different parameter meanings. Selecting a firmware keeps separate input values rather than converting one complete firmware configuration into another.
Worked example
With 93 steps/mm, a command of 100 mm and an actual feed of 95 mm, the proposed Marlin value is 93 × 100/95 = 97.89473684 steps/mm. With Klipper rotation distance 34.4 mm/rev and the same measurement, the proposed value is 34.4 × 95/100 = 32.68 mm/rev. A mark moving from 120 mm to 25 mm also represents 95 mm of actual feed.
Assumptions and limits
This is a filament-feed correction, not XYZ calibration, slicer flow tuning or an automated hardware test. Existing Klipper gear-ratio interpretation must remain consistent. Slip, measurement error and mechanical problems can invalidate an arithmetic correction. Follow the printer and firmware documentation for the test and any configuration change; the tool neither heats nor moves the printer.
Continue your plan
Review throughput with the volumetric flow calculator, check material quantity with the filament calculator, or price a job with the printing cost calculator.
Copy, download or print a valid result to keep the inputs with the estimate. Currency selections label your prices; they do not apply an exchange rate. Product-dependent examples should be replaced with data for the material or equipment you actually use.
